We organise fortnightly coach journeys to destinations in Co. Durham, Northumberland, Yorkshire and Cumbria
Would you like to enjoy beautiful countryside, stunning views and invigorating exercise and make new friends whilst you’re at it? We are a group of people who enjoy walking with others and understand its not just about keeping fit, its also about social interaction and getting out in the fresh air.
We are lucky to have the most wonderful, varied landscapes nearby, from wild hills and valleys, to the coast, with its sweeping sandy beaches and magnificent castles. Besides the chance to enjoy the great vistas these landscapes offer, the walks provide good exercise with a variety of lengths and degree of difficulty to suit all tastes.
Durham Rambling Club
organises trips every two weeks on Sundays to some of the best walks in Durham, Cumbria, Yorkshire, and Northumberland. There is a six monthly weekend programme with locations spanning Hadrian’s Wall, the Cheviots, Teesdale and Weardale, the Durham and Northumberland coast, the heather clad North York Moors, the limestone and millstone grit scenery of the Yorkshire Dales, the Howgills, Cumbria and the Lakes, Northumberland and the Tyne valley.
Transport
is by coach which leaves Durham City at 9.00am on walking Sundays. There are three walks, an A-walk which would be normally about 12 to 14 miles and will be strenuous, a B-walk which is easier at about 9 miles, and a C walk, which will be about 6 miles. In the interests of safety we ask new walkers, for their first walk, to do either the B or the C walk. Please err on the side of caution when choosing your walk. We charge £15.00 per person (£20.00 for Lake District walks), for each walk, payable on the coach. The charge for the walk only, using your own transport, is £5.00. If possible, please pay in notes or by cheque, payable to Durham Rambling Club. Cheques are very much preferred. Please be sure to book in advance or there may not be a seat on the coach for you!
OtherActivities
We also have regular walking weekends and other trips and social events.

“Durham Rambling Club has been part of my life for over 25 years. It is a great way to get exercise in the fresh air, visit beautiful areas of the North East without having to use your own car, meet new people from all walks of life and generally have a good time!”
“I love to walk with the Durham Rambling Club, discovering the fabulous countryside in our area. We also have knowledgeable members who can tell the hikers about the wildlife, flora and fauna we come across on the walks. Walking with the ramblers is good for your health, and education!”
“Durham Rambling Club is friendly, fun and a great way of getting exercise and fresh air. The walks are very varied and I have so enjoyed going to places I wouldn’t normally visit or walk around, from Berwick to the Yorkshire Dales.”
